National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU)
Національне антикорупційне бюро України (НАБУ) · also NABU, НАБУ
Ukraine's independent law-enforcement body for high-level corruption, working with the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO); in November 2025 it exposed the "Midas" energy-sector kickback case.
NABU investigates corruption involving senior officials and state companies; prosecutions are handled by the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO). In November 2025 NABU announced a 15-month investigation codenamed "Midas", alleging that a group of "shadow managers" extorted kickbacks from contractors of the state nuclear operator Energoatom and laundered an estimated $100 million; the operation involved more than 70 searches.
On November 28, NABU and SAPO searched the home of Andriy Yermak, head of the President's Office, who resigned the same day. MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak said NABU recordings showed a person codenamed "Ali Baba" trying in July 2025 to undermine the independence of the anti-corruption bodies, a plan halted by public protests.
