French school-student movements

mouvements lycéens · also lycéens, School blockades

Protest movements by lycée (upper secondary) students, often blockading school gates. In autumn 2026 they protested teacher shortages and run-down schools.

The French lycée corresponds to the last three years of high school. School-student movements are a traditional form of French social protest; besides high school students, participants include students in advanced technician certificate (BTS) programs and in preparatory classes for the grandes écoles (CPGE).

In early October 2026, while high school students were blockading schools in protest, claims circulated online that students had been seriously injured. Police conduct became a focus of debate and was important background to the October 17 mobilization.
